    Thursday 4/30/09 Minor League Updates:

Louisville is on the road at Buffalo facing the 2-16 Bisons. (6:05 ET)
Matt Maloney will be heading out for his fourth start of the season. He currently sports a 2-0 with a crisp 1.86 ERA. In 19 1/3 innings he has punched out 15 and has yet to walk a batter in 2009.

Carolina is hosting the Chattanooga Lookouts tonight. (7:15 ET) The former Reds' AA affiliate comes into the game with a 6-14 record on the year, although they are currently riding a three-game win streak. Dallas Buck is looking to make that streak stop here. This will be his fifth start on the year. His record is 2-1 to go along with a 3.47 ERA. Buck has gone at least five innings in every one of his starts to date.

Sarasota will be visiting the Susan St. Lucie Mets on Thursday. (7:00 ET)
Sarasota hopes to snap St. Lucie's modest two-game streak and sends Matthew Klinker to the mound. Klinker has not had a decision in four previous outings. His 4.79 ERA indicates a bit of a rough start to the season, but he does sport a fine 17K/4BB ratio.

Dayton will hope to extend their two-game win streak tonight at Beloit. (7:30 ET) This battle of cellar-dwellars pits the 5-14 Dragons against the 6-12 Snappers. Dayton's starter has yet to be determined according to the Beloit website.

Maloney should mow right through that Buffalo team.
I'll be more interested in seeing how Dallas Buck continues to improve. Love his GO tendencies.

I was hoping Juan Carlos Sulbaran would start tonight. It looks like he'll go tomorrow night instead.

Talk about getting off to a rough start, Astorga has started three games for Dayton in 2009 and lasted a total of 10 innings. In those 10 innings he has given up 22 hits 21 earned runs walked eight batters and struck out only two.
This works out to a WHIP of 3.00 and an ERA of 18.90. I would think he is due for a little bounce back tonight.

    KEEP YOUR EYE ON…

    LHP Travis Wood (Carolina)

The 21 year-old Arkansas native this season has allowed just 2 earned runs in 21.2 innings, giving him a microscopic 0.83 ERA (3rd in the Southern League)...he’s holding opponents to a .149 batting average but the lack of run support has blemished his record at 0-3 (Carolina has scored just 9 runs total over his 4 starts)...the 2009 season marks his 5th in the Reds organization since being selected by the club in the 2nd round of the 2005 draft. “Travis has really pitched well. Although his record may not indicate it, he has made major improvements.” - Terry Reynolds (Reds Senior Director of Player Development)

Seems weird rooting vs the Lookouts. They've been a Reds affiliate as long as I can remember.

*sigh* This game is going to drive me crazy. I see "lookouts get a run" and my initial reaction is WooHoo! Until I remember that we ditched the lookouts last year and switched to the Mudcats. I've gotta focus on the players and not the team name. Still irritating though.

Buck gets out of a bases loaded, one out jam with a double play ball.

The Dodger's AA team didn't score.

Buck is out with an unknown injury. Smit in to replace him.
