    Quiet 25-game hitting streak

Don't look now but Ryan Zimmerman has a very quiet 25-game hitting streak. If he gets a hit every day this weekend he will be halfway to Joe Dimaggio and baseball immortality. A long way to go, to be sure, but still an impressive streak.

39 total hits in 25 games, a .330 average and being out hit by Joey Votto? This doesn't sound like a very impressive hitting streak, maybe that's why it's not getting a lot of coverage.

A streak is a streak as far as I'm concerned. When a streak becomes bigger than the team, then that's a problem. He's still hitting .330 so I don't feel like that's even an issue at this point.

It's very impressive and the OP is correct, i said it last night when I heard it "WOW" because things have been so quiet about it.

Zimmerman is a nice young player and a 25 game hit streak is something most guys in the game never do in a career. It's a nice thing to do, very hard to achieve.

If you don't think his current .336 average is impressive then we will have to agree to disagree. 25 games straight with a hit is consistency that most would kill for. Whether or not it is a statistical anomaly is irrelevant, it's a nice accomplishment. Comparing him to Votto--a much superior hitter--is pointless imho; they are two different players on two VERY different teams.

Agree that Votto is a better hitter around the same age. And look at the contract that Zimmerman just got. Reds aren't doing something right

well you could have a 162 game hitting streak and still not crack .250...

Would never happen, but it is possible. Point being that a hitting streak doesn't always mean they have a good average.

    Fixed that for you.

The Reds are getting more production for less money. That is doing it right.

Maybe right this second. But if Votto continues (and Bruce) he will price himself out of the comfortable range and the Reds will need a kings ransom just to keep him.

There is a reason that the Rays, Indians, Marlins and other teams lock up their young stars like Longoria, Hanley, and Sizemore buying out their arbitration years. It is the smart move. The Reds need to quit being cheap and build around these two. Deliver and the fans will turnout. These players will pay for themselves in the way of putting fannies in the seats and wins in the standings.

Shhh. Two more hits for Zimmerman last night stretching the streak to 26 games. According to baseball-reference.com his hitting line during the streak is .357/.411/.581/.992. Some folks aren't impressed with those numbers. I'd take about 8 hitters posting similar numbers for the Reds' starting lineup any day of the week.

I don't see how this can be viewed as anything but VERY impressive. Once he gets to 30 games this will probably gain some national exposure.

However, let Mike Lowell get a 10 game streak and it'll be the second story you see on SportsCenter - right behind their obligatory Favre lead.

Ryan Zimmerman comes to the plate in the 8th with his 26-game hitting streak on the line and goes yard for what proves to be the eventual game-winner. Sweet. 27 in a row now. Don't tell a soul.

Three more hits on Sunday and Ryan Zimmerman is halfway to baseball immortality. 28 down, 28 to go. Here is hoping Adam Dunn keeps hitting for another month. I believe Zimmerman is benefiting a ton having AD in the on-deck circle while he is at the plate. Of course, Zimmerman also has a boatload of talent. That is proving a solid combination so far in 2009.

4 more hits on Monday as RZ makes it 29 in a row. Unimpressive numbers during the streak: .381/.428/.659/1.086.
