I remember Pete Rose mentioning the second game in one of his early biographies. Apparently, Watson broke his glasses on the play, cutting his eye. Pete was unhappy with the reaction of some fans who decided to take the opportunity to throw their beer on the fallen Watson.

I'm sure its all about maximizing all dates available. 81 games on 81 different days would = more revenue. It's a shame, I think, that each team couldn't have at least two doubleheaders at home per season. It could be promoted as Bargain Day to bring the family out for a full day of baseball fun at the ballpark. Cincinnati could do this as way to reach out to the fans that live far off like when I was growing up. I lived about 5+ hours from Cincy and we would get tickets to a doubleheader for once a year pilgramage to see Reds baseball. That way we saw two games instead of just one since we could only make it one time a year because of distance.
