    Re: Re-do a draft - 2000

We could probably go to 40 picks for this one without any big drop-off in production.

It looks like a lot of the best Pirates of recent memory came from this draft.

I noticed that about the Pirates roster too. I really want to draft that Ryan Jorgensen dude, but I just can't pull the trigger.

Ryan Church, Josh Willingham, and Conor Jackson all seem about equal to me, but I'll go with Jackson for this pick.

This draft was better than I thought at first glance yesterday. Not as many stars as the '99 draft, but a lot of solid, solid major leaguers.

He may be fluxing b/w AAA & the majors right now, but he's marrying my cousin this november, and well similar circumstances did well for Mike Piazza.

I had to pick him at some point

The first two rounds were awful, but there was a steady trickle of players in the rounds after that.

I'm also having a hard time understanding why Rich Harden is so underrated in these drafts.

Freddy Sanchez was taken by Boston, but still I'd have to say the Pirates were the hindsight winners of the 2000 draft, no question.

What a solid draft. Littlefield really had to stink pretty bad to screw up that organization so bad.

I thought he was a little overrated in the 1999 re-do. He's talented, but he's only qualified for one ERA title in six seasons to date. Just speaking for myself, I sort of expect his arm to fall off in the not-too-distant future.

I agree. His durability (or lack thereof) is and has been a major concern.

    Still, though. 650 innings so far. 658 K's, with a career 45-21 record and he's not doing too bad in 2009 (4-1, 37.2 IP, 46 K).

And last year (10-2, 148 IP, 181 K, low 2.00 something ERA) was solid as well, although limited by his durability.

I wonder if he makes it past 30 at this rate.

Two time all star, and a former batting champ at the 2B spot is too good to pass up with this pick, even if I'm not the biggest fan of a BA-driven production.

I'm really looking forward to redoing the 2005 draft. Might Jay Bruce go #1 overall or will that honor go to Ryan Braun?
