The Astros, who are nipping at the Reds' heels, lost 4-3 to the Tigers after being one out away from victory.

Bad base running just cost the Cardinals a chance to have bases loaded and 1 out.

    Now its 1st & 3rd with 2 outs.

Cards lose too. 2 1/2 back and a .500 record. Amazing.

    Pirates lose 3-2. to KC.
REDS win and every other division team loses. How often does that happen?

The Reds are 37-37 and 2.5 games out of first place despite:

    1. Willy Taveras and his sub-.600 OPS playing everyday over Chris Dickerson
    2. Joey Votto missing 30 games
    3. Edwin Encarnacion missing two months
    4. Edinson Volquez missing a month and a half (and more)

IMO, if the Reds had remained relatively healthy, they would be in first place right now.

Also, consider this: The Reds are 0-6 against the Padres (32-41) and Royals (32-42). Win just two of those games and the Reds would be 39-35 and only a half game behind the Brewers for first place.

    Not enough?

Currently, the Cubs are putting a beatdown on the Brewers. 9-2 (Top of 5) Lee has a GS and a three run homer.

Cards are winning 5-2 (Bottom of 8)

Houston beat SD 7-2. Their 1 game under and have one 8 of their last ten series.

Pirates lost to the Mets in extras. Their really not applicable anymore since their 6 games under.

I really hate the Cubs. Derrick Lee needs to go back into his funk. :thumbdown

This weekend is going to be insane.

I know. We have to root for them this weekend. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Brewers 1 Cubs 0 early. Another beanball game warming up with Zambrano on the mound--Z plunks Fielder (a big target) and Suppan hits Lee in bottom half of the inning. Warnings issued. In the immortal words of Gomer Pyle "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise"

Brewers and Cubs tied at 1 in the 8th. Wins from the Cubs and Reds would put us a game back.
