I didn't see him drafted that year. What round?

The Reds drafted Markakis in the 23rd round of the 2002 draft.

I did not know that. I take it he didn't sign?

Markakis a bargain that low. I might even argue him #1 overall. (Though McCann and Grienke would also be good top picks.

Baseball-Reference has the Reds drafting Brian Marine in the 23rd round in 2002.

On Baseball Cube they are saying we selected a Brian Marine that year in the 23rd.

I considered him. Gave some thought to Curtis Granderson too.

The Brian Marine listings are wrong. Don't know how that got listed. Here's the Reds' 2002 draft list -

The Reds drafted Markakis in the 35th round of the 2001 draft and failed to sign him. They then drafted him again in the 23rd round of the 2002 draft and again failed to sign him. He was the #1 draft and follow prospect but the Reds wouldn't give him the extra $100,000 or whatever it was he wanted. He was then drafted 7th overall by the Orioles in 2003.

Bummer, I would have taken him ahead of Swisher had I known that. Guess I better find a better list to go off of.

Good pick there Cincy09, the steal of the draft perhaps.
