Would be nice to see Jerry Gil turn in a solid performance. Anybody heard what kind of velo he's got, or what secondary pitches?

Chris Heisey is 10th in all of the minors in OBP at .462 and Matt Fairel is 9th in the minors with a K/9 of 11.81.

Can anyone comment on the Reds' view of the potential of Mallett and Avery? Both have been around for a while now. It also seems as if Mallett pitches every other day.

I took a liking to Mallett when I saw him pitch for Dayton a couple of times. He falls into the late bloomer label, after transferring to a new school his senior year of HS, he failed to make the baseball team (perhaps politics, or "issues" don't know the story, just that he didn't make it), and while shining in summer ball he got an offer to a JUCO program.

A pretty tall kid w/ what appeared at the time to be a great changeup and so-so fastball. I'm sure the hope/belief was that he could keep the changeup, and develop the fastball to match his height and frame and turn into a solid reliever in the bigs. I think he got suspended for breaking the drug policy (not sure if it was PEDs or something illicit, or what) a couple of seasons ago. At this point, one has to think his chances of ever making the reds, or any other major league club is slim, but perhaps he gets a late season call up, or injury fill in and gives the big league club every reason to keep him around.

Looks like Homer isn't getting called up to replace Masset

You are correct. Travis threw a 1-2-3 first inning with 2 K's.

Heisey walked in his first plate appearance.

Todd Frazier continues to be a doubles machine after hitting another one just now. That's his 17th double of the season.

Louisville is losing 3-2 in the first inning of game one. Louisville is facing the highly touted Chris Tillman.

Richar led off with a single. Stubbs reached on a fielders choice. One out. Sutton struckout. Stubbs stole third base (#14) and scored on a Jonny Gomes 2-run HR (#9).

So far Tillman seems pretty hittable. Unfortunately, so does LeCure.

Brian Peterson is back on the Bats roster and he's catching tonight.
