    Brewers Acquire Jody Gerut

    From MLBTradeRumors.com:
    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/0...de-coming.html
Brewers Acquire Jody Gerut For Tony Gwynn Jr.

1:58pm: According to Craig Elsten of 619 Sports, the Brewers acquired Jody Gerut from the Padres for Tony Gwynn Jr. MLB.com's Corey Brock confirms it.

Gerut, 31, had a fine comeback year in '08 but is off to a .221/.248/.381 start in 121 plate appearances this year. He's played center and right field for the Padres. His defense rates as a plus. Since he has decent service time he's up to a $1.775MM salary.

Gwynn cleared waivers in April, so the Padres could've had him for nothing at that time. He didn't hit much in Triple A last year.

Good story. Maybe not a great move but a good story for SD.
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

It may be a good story, but it's a weird one. If they were interested in Gwynn Jr....why in the world didn't they pick him up off of waivers in April instead of having it cost them Gerut? Strange move.
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

Probably because Gerut is making 1.75M, the Pads are in cost saving mode, and found a team willing to take his contract, plus Gerut stinks. He likely had negative trade value.

I think this is a great pickup for the Brewers. Gerut's a good player who's going to provide high quality depth.

Last night Tony Gywnn Jr. batted in the 9th and go a Pete Rose Jr type of reception, he showed up just in time to steal the game from Linicum.

Agree. A lefty bat for a 4th OFer to spell a righty dominated OF could get him 2-3 starts a week and he will provide above average D in those starts. Might even be a late inning defensive replacement for Braun.
