The International League announced today that Louisville outfielder Chris Heisey and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pitcher Sergio Mitre have been named the League’s Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from July 6-12. Heisey’s selection represents the sixth time a Louisville Bat has been named Player of the Week this season, most in the IL. Mitre is the third Yankee to be so honored.
CHRIS HEISEY, Louisville Bats IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Bats outfielder Chris Heisey hit .450 for the week and led the International League with two home runs, 9 RBI, and an .850 slugging percentage. Heisey did his damage in only five games before traveling to St. Louis to participate in the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game. Over a three-game span from Wednesday to Friday, Heisey went 8-14 with two homers and six RBI, and also played the role of hero for the Bats in an extra-inning struggle at Toledo. Heisey delivered a game-winning, two-run double in the top of the 12th Thursday to help Louisville extend its lead in the IL West Division to an IL-best 9.5 games. Since being promoted from Double-A Carolina in late June, Heisey is hitting .365 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 14 games for Louisville.
24-year-old Chris Heisey is in his fourth professional season. He was selected by Cincinnati in the 17th round of the 2006 draft. Heisey was a postseason All-Star in the Florida State League last year, and this June he was named Southern League Player of the Week. Heisey is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
