Both benches emptied in the bottom of the eighth inning after Davey Lopes walked on four inside pitches. Reds backup INF Rick Auerbach and Dodgers backup INF Derrel Thomas were ejected in the altercation. Prior to the game, the Reds traded OF Champ Summers to the Tigers for a player to be named later. The Reds received left-handed relief pitcher Sheldon Burnside after the season.
