Through 8 Louisville down 2-0. Griffin has the only Bats hit (infield single to short) but they have coaxed 6 walks.

Tough loss for Maloney. Seriously, pictures of Walt with a Kodiak bear.

You could put him in the rotation and Owings in the pen. Open up a spot by removing Lincoln or sending Burton down or to the DL.

At this point, though, I think you let it ride with the starters. But Burton and Lincoln both need a break from the ML squad. They have been weak links in the bullpen this year.

was actually referring to the ill-timed call of Homer to replace Volquez for a start. Even though Maloney has completely outpitched Homer over the last 2 seasons.

Gotcha. In that case, I agree.

Maloney should be next in line to get his chance if a spot starter is needed or an injury occurs in the rotation. Homer just needs to stay in AAA the rest of the year and wait for a possible Sept callup.

The fact that Maloney would have been on such short rest probably has a lot to do with why Bailey was called up instead. I wouldn't criticize the organization for giving the spot start to Bailey.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe Maloney pitched in AAA the day before the spot start. He could have just been pushed back one day if they wanted to call him up. I don't think rest was a factor in the decision.

I think that Matt going a day late, then having someone fill his spot, then dealing with moving the guys back around at AAA to get them back in order might have somethin to do with it.

I do think they just called up Bailey because it was going to be 1 start and wouldnt throw off anyones schedule.

It's possible. I think trying to win the MLB game trumps all other concerns though, really I think they called up Bailey because they think he's better.
