    Dominican Summer League Reds

Just a heads up, the Reds Dominican Summer League team opens their season tomorrow at 10:30 AM.

    Here's the roster:

Perhaps the most interesting name on the roster is SS/2B Junior Arias. You may recall that Arias was signed by the Reds out the Dominican last July for $330,000. He would've received a higher signing bonus if not for an arm injury. He just turned 17 in January and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 178 pounds. The BA scouting report on him is he's a great athlete with a nice short stroke to the ball.

Another interesting prospect is catcher Yimmy Lopez. He's listed at 6-foot-0 and 216 pounds and is only 16 years old. According to Ben Badler, he was signed out of Venezuela back in January.

Brayan Arias is a 17-year old outfielder from Bani, Dominican Republic (same last name as Junior Arias and from the same city, maybe brothers?) and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds.

Other interesting names are Carlos Tineo (6-foot-5 RHP, only 17 years old, signed for $100,000-$200,000 range), 2B/SS Andres Santoni ($100,000 bonus), OF Frederman Lopez ($100,000 bonus), and RHP Ricardo Quintero ($100,000).

Ismael Guillon was listed on the roster yesterday but he's not showing up today. My guess is he'll begin the season on the DL and then we may see him in the GCL.

Juan Duran and Yorman Rodriguez will start the season in the GCL, which begins on June 23rd.

Other than Guillon, the only other notable missing prospect is shortstop Anyelo Polanco, who signed last July for $300,000. He may start in the GCL.

BTW, after doing a little more research, I found that Brayan and Junior Arias aren't brothers. Brayan was born on 11-27-91 while Junior was born on 1-09-92. They were born about a month and a half apart, so unless their mother worked a miracle, they aren't brothers.

Good to see Juan and Yorman in the GCL. Have they been practicing at Sarasota in the meantime?
