Re: 2009 Redszone mock draft selection thread

With the 24th pick of the draft, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim select:

    Drew Storen, RHP, Stanford University

Here is a brief summary per MLB.com

Storen has the stuff to be a starter and it's not unheard of for a team to take a college closer and let him start as a pro. That being said, there's a reason Stanford has him in the bullpen ... his command hasn't always been sharp. Even as a short reliever, though, his fastball-curve mix is more than enough to get hitters out, especially from the right side. Good college closers usually get drafted well and Storen should be no exception.

With the 25th pick of the draft, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim select:

    Andrew Oliver, LHP, Oklahoma State

Here is a brief summary per MLB.com

Oliver got a lot of attention when he was suspended by the NCAA for being represented by an agent, then got the suspension overturned in court. He's had an up-and-down junior season performance-wise, but scouts love his fastball-changeup mix. He can crank the heater up to 98 mph and the change is a plus pitch as well. More than anything, his fastball command is what makes him so intriguing, and it's his bread-and-butter, making up for the lack of a breaking ball. Lefties who throw that hard and command the ball that well aren't common, so he should go quickly on Draft day.

Love the choice Oliver could have been (probably should have been) top 10 had he not been shafted.

No idea but I'm about to move on. He was viewing this thread at 4:00 and then signed off without making his pick and then he was on again at 8:30 and again failed to make his pick. Oh well, I'm moving on.

Re: 2009 Redszone mock draft selection thread

Dang, I was hoping to get Arnett.

With the #27 Overall Pick the Seattle Mariners select Tyler Skaggs a LHP from Santa Monica H.S.in California.

    Per MLB.com:
Everyone loves a decent lefty and Skaggs has the chance to be a good one. Tall and lean, he's got the protypical body type scouts love -- and he's got two above-average to plus pitches to go along with it. Good performances this spring could put this prep southpaw high on many Draft boards.

Re: 2009 Redszone mock draft selection thread

The scouting director had Tony Sanchez penciled in for weeks and still wants to take him, but the GM has wandered into the room and asked the question of whether Sanchez will be a bigger impact player than some of the OFs still left on the board.

So with the 28th pick the Boston Red Sox select A.J. Pollock.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
