With the 43rd overall pick, the Cincinnati Reds select Everett Williams, OF, McCallum HS, Austin (TX). Everett comes from an athletic family, as his father played in the NFL and his cousin Cedric Allen pitched in the Reds system and two of his aunts are in the national softball Hall of Fame.

With the 44th overall pick the Texas Rangers select Matt Davidson, 3B, from Yucaipa HS, California.

    Here's a brief scouting report:

    Matt Davidson-3B-California HS

    -
There aren’t many players in the high school class, even the entire draft class, that match Davidson’s power potential. However, he isn’t an all or nothing kind of hitter. He stays balanced at the plate and drives the ball all around. Defensively, he has made significant strides at 3rd base and he should be able to do more than just hold his own at the hot corner.

With the 45th pick the Arizona Diamondbacks select Luke Bailey, C Troup County HS (GA) Just about every team will be monitoring Bailey's early stage recovery from Tommy John surgery, and assuming all goes well he could still figure into the late first round. When fully healthy, Bailey is a smooth defender with a strong, accurate throwing arm who figures to be a plus all-around defender. Offensively, Bailey has big time raw power, as he generates incredible bat speed with strong wrists and maintains great plate coverage. Before the injury, Bailey was a possible top 10 pick and given the high rate of recovery for Tommy John patients, the Brewers could get a steal with this selection. I have a hard time seeing Bailey get by the Red Sox or Yankees, both of whom have deep pockets and a need for a backstop of the future.

Re: 2009 Redszone mock draft selection thread

With pick #46, the Twins take Jared Mitchell, OF, LSU. They took him out of high school 3 years ago, too.

Mitchell certainly was one of the more intriguing college bats as Draft day approached. Playing for a high-powered LSU team, he showed the exciting athleticism that made him a two-sport standout, with plus speed and flashes of raw power. He's got some serious holes in his swing and, perhaps because of his split focus, he's more projection than anything else right now. Whoever takes him -- and it could be in the first round -- will likely see him as a center fielder who will steal bases and hit for power in the future.

With the 48th pick overall, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim select:

Zack Von Rosenburg, RHP, Zachary (La.) HS

There is no MLB.com summary. Here is my summary:

He's tall (6'5") and had 141 strikeouts in 93 innings. His ERA is 0.60. Baseball America regards him as the 41st best prospect. He has a cool, aristocratic sounding name.

NC Reds is the man. This guy is always ready for his pick. Kudos to you bro. It seems like this draft is moving at a faster pace that the previous three we've done. Kudos to everyone.

Logan Buck sent his pick in.

With the 49th overall pick and last pick of the supplemental first round, the Pirates select Aaron Miller, LHP/OF, Baylor.

I'm not sure if I was hungover or still drunk, but I was in really bad shape this morning. I'm feeling much better now, though.
