With recent injuries, ineffectiveness, and mechanical questions about college pitchers and the lack of solid hitting prospects across the nation, Cincinnati looks to be heading toward a HS pitcher. Terry Reynolds hinted as much last week, when addressing team philosophy, saying they really though the young LH were well above average and the HS pitchers as a whole were solidly above average.
He also stated that Crow was likely to be taken earlier than the Reds' #8 pick. Since Scheppers has some baggage, White can't seem to get good hitters out, and Gibson has a broken wing, most teams ahead of the Reds are now taking those few college and HS bats (Green, Tate) they might have passed over in earlier decisions.
If you're not crazy about HS pitchers in the 1st Round, you might not like this draft. Personally, I see the risk involved (not to mention the cost), but what better options are there at this point? Do you ignore warning signs and grab college arms? Do you grab a more proven pitcher, a la Minor at Vandy, with a lower ceiling, but higher floor?
Or do you gamble with a HS bat overdraft and see if Borchering can play?
Your opinion, Redszone? If Grant Green and Aaron Crow are gone (as is now likely), who's your pick and why?
