I agree with Tolkien and the Douglass Adams books. I also have a number of baseball anecdote books that are pretty dog-eared.

Another nod to Hitchhiker's Guide here.
Also, I've read Jim Brosnan's Pennant Race about ten times.

The Stand

To Kill a Mockingbird.
Also loved "The Great Brain" series when I was a kid- read those things 10 times a piece.
The three books that I have probably read, and re-read, the most are the Bible, The Great Gatsby (easy to re-read because it is short), and, well, many of Bill James books, especially his Historical Baseball Abstracts.
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."
Slaughterhouse Five
+1 for Hitchhiker's Guide and also Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
My name is Cheesy Beef Burrito
I always find myself reaching for A Clockwork Orange (including the omitted final chapter)
and The book of James
Weird combo.
Witty signature.

Ahhh! Kurt Vonnegut and J.D. Salinger helped form my life. They were largely the reason I majored in English in college. God Bless you Mr. Rosewater, Breakfast of Champions, Slaughterhouse Five, and his other works were great reads. The Catcher in the Rye, Franny and Zooey, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters... were also great books that influenced me and have been read over and over again.
I actually met Kurt Vonnegut back in the mid-1990s. He and his wife were staying at a bed and breakfast in Bridgton, Maine. We talked for a short time, and I explained his influence on my life. Just like Elliot Rosewater to Kilgore Trout, I told him he should be president. It was a great line from one of my favorite books, but he didn't seem to get it. Actually, I was a bit disappointed in our meeting. He was not very friendly, but he did give me a great autograph/self portrait/cartoon. It looks very similar to the portrait of Kilgore Trout in Breakfast of Champions. I have it laminated and hanging in my classroom.
