I believe Matt Fairel is pitching for Dayton.

    Fun fact for tonight:

Bats catcher Craig Tatum has put up nice numbers over his last 10 games.

    .323/.581/.451 - 1.032 OPS

Unfortunately, your aunt Laverne could steal on his arm.

Interesting to hear this about his arm, GOYA, b/c the read on his defense has always been that he's pretty good.

My Aunt Laverne is a 60 runner on the scouting scale and has a book on everybody's move to first.

Maybe with Hernandez playing so much at 1B, and he and to a lesser extent, Hanigan showing a little fatugue, its time to give Tatum a cup of coffee until Votto or EdE return. He's on the 40 man roster and lord knows Castillo isn't the answer to anything. Tatum's hot and has a good defensive rep. Call him up for a couple weeks, get him 3 or 4 starts over that time frame and it may just work wonders for Hernandez and Hanigan (and maybe Tatum draws a little trade interest if he hits a bit).

He has been a pretty good receiver but both he and Castillo have a very poor rate of throwing out runners. Castillo might be a little better but he's not as good of a receiver.

Unfortunately, I don't have stats to back that up. Does anyone know of a free site that tracks defensive stats on catchers? The Baseball Cube doesn't have anything.

Tatum has thrown out only 18% this year, but last year, he caught 38%.

Thanks, can you check Castillo's numbers?

Smith gives up a run in the first. Mudcats down 1-0 as they come up.

Carolina gives up a run on what sounds like a crazy play. A runner scored from 2nd on an infield groundout, Alonso to pitcher covering.

Chris Heisey hits a solo HR (#12) in his first atbat. 1-1.

That HR was good timing for Heisey. His batting average had dropped below the Cobb line. Now it's back to a respectable .367.
