Lincoln has cleared waivers, remains on roster

    Per foxsports
    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9...clears-waivers

Cincinnati - Reds reliever Mike Lincoln cleared outright waivers Tuesday, remaining on the team's active roster, a major league source told FOXSports.com.
Lincoln, 34, has walked seven batters over his last seven innings and has enough service time that he could refuse any assignment to the minor leagues.

The fact that Lincoln cleared waivers is an indication that no other major league team wished to acquire him at his current rate of pay. But he is still able to pitch for the Reds, just as right-hander Vicente Padilla has for Texas since clearing waivers earlier this month.

Lincoln is 1-1 with an 8.22 ERA in 19 appearances. The right-hander signed a two-year, $4 million contract with Cincinnati during the offseason.

I had no idea he'd been placed on waivers.

So if he cleared waivers, why isn't he in AAA?

Because he has the right to refuse assignment. If I'm not mistaken, the Reds can release him but will have to pay his salary over the minimum if he is signed by another team.

    I like his mustache.

There's a veteran exception rule to waivers. Any player with more than 5 years of MLB experience can refuse an assignment to the minor leagues. I think if they refuse the assignment however, they become a free agent.

It was Walt's way of seeing if there was ANY interest in him around the majors.

The answer apparently was a resounding no.

The other teams are simply lining up for Lincoln on the open market. Once the Reds release him, they can get all that awesome for only the minimum.

Or they can sign him to a two year deal with $4mil in the second season.

Re: Lincoln has cleared waivers, remains on roster

Huh? When did Lincoln get put on waivers? I follow all the Reds' sites, blog sites, etc and I sure didn't see ANYTHING ANYWHERE about Lincoln getting waived. Can I call shenanigans on this one?

    *heads off to check*

~edit~ Texasdave just filled me in a bit on the difference between being put on waivers and being waived. Oh well, it still seems strange to not see any notification about it anywhere until after the fact.
