    Big Red Machine

Folks, a sample lineup of (not) your daddy's Reds.

June splits for the typical Reds' batting order:

    4	Jonny Gomes	26	3	7	1	3	2	9	0.269	0.333	0.500	0.833
    	Laynce Nix	50	4	13	3	11	3	12	0.260	0.309	0.520	0.829

    7	Ryan Hanigan	47	6	14	0	4	5	7	0.298	0.365	0.340	0.706
    8	Alex Gonzalez	53	4	11	0	4	3	4	0.208	0.259	0.264	0.523
    9	Micah Owings	6	1	1	1	3	1	3	0.167	0.286	0.667	0.952
    PH	Chris Dickerson	33	2	8	0	1	5	6	0.242	0.342	0.303	0.645
    PH	Adam Rosales	23	1	2	0	3	3	5	0.087	0.214	0.087	0.301
Micah Owings included as the pitcher for dramatic contrast.

Bruce with more BBs than Ks is at least encouraging.

That, and the production from the left field platoon is about the only optimistic thing from the entire team. Brandon Phillips is doing OK. Ryan Hanigan, who has been a beacon of hope relatively speaking, has an OPS barely over 700.

It's mind-numbing how bad this team has hit recently.

What's it going to take to get Gomes some PT at 1B?
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
