I was fast, not fast enough. I will take that as good news about Leake. Sure does explain all the mechanical issues folks were noticing and, most importantly, keeps the ASU coach from temptation. I asked a question in the minor league updates thread about why Alonso was showing up hitting in the 12th last night. I wonder if he played with it or it happened after the last update?

    Let's hope it's tendinitis only.

In the name of "there is no such thing as a pitching prospect," agreed.

Doug, are you reporting what has been rumored in the Mike Leake thread, or is there something more definitive out there than the ASU manager's comment?

He saw Willy Taveras' OBP and started banging his hand on a table.

    Willy Taveras is evil.
The Sox traded Bullfrog the only player they've got for Shottenhoffen. Four-eyes Shottenhoffen a utility infielder. They've got a whole team of utility infielders.

He didn't break his hand actually. He broke his hamate bone which is more in the wrist area. He broke it on a swing. He isn't the first, third or even fifth guy to do it swinging a bat. The good news is, it doesn't have any long term issues. The bad news is, it generally saps a player of his power for about a year after it heals. There is a long list of guys who have dealt with it. Griffey broke his. Pedro Alvarez broke his when he was at Vanderbilt his junior year.

I would guess this sets his ETA back until at least mid-2010.

He may be in his final option year before he ever suits up in Cincinnati. Not good.

I don't think it will be that much of a concern. The guy has great plate discipline and he should still have some power. He could probably help next year even if his power is down some because he puts the ball in play a lot and walks a lot.

No surprise to hear this about Leake, and makes me nervous about him long term, the way Pat abuses his pitchers, well, many thought Dusty ran his staff in the ground in Chitown, seems Pat set the course for it.

Good thing he's not occupying one of those valuable 40 man roster spots.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. We can always get him to re-jig his deal to allow himself more time to stay in the minors and fully develop.

If I recall, we did the same with Wily Mo Pena......

2012 is his last option year.
