    Alonso was a freak injury.

IIRC, we wouldn't have been able to get Buck in that trade if he hadn't been injured in the first place.

It was a new injury that got Buck. His progress from his previous injury was going well.

My mistake. I wasn't aware of a new injury with Buck.

That's fine. He'll finish the season in Carolina and start next year in Louisville.

    Agreed.

His timetable should not be changed by this.

Options won't be an issue with him, any more than they were an issue with Barry Larkin.

11:46 am Will Yonder Alonso be given a serious look next spring to crack the ML roster? How bad is his injury?

    bob_miller:
11:47 am he broke his hamate bone in his hand. Nothing major. Should be back later in the year.

I thought he only got three option years after his signing yr, thus 2009, 10 and 11. Does he get more than three?

I wouldn't worry about it. If he isn't playing everyday in the majors by 2011, he'll be in another organization.
