Francisco Joins Alonso On Mudcats’ DL

Two days after placing first baseman Yonder Alonso on the disabled list, the Reds’ Double-A affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats, have lost another big bat, as third baseman Juan Francisco was disabled with a strained right hamstring. The move to the seven-day Southern League DL is retroactive to Saturday, the 20th, so he’ll miss the coming week. Francisco was hitting .261/.291/.471, with a rough 11-63 walk-strikeout ratio and 13 home runs in 67 games (276 at-bats). The 13 home runs ties Francisco with Mudcats teammate Chris Heisey for second in the SL behind Ryne Hughes, recently promoted from Montgomery to Triple-A Durham.

Taking Francisco’s place on the active roster is utility infielder Jake Kahaulelio, who was hitting .292/.393/.385 at high Class A Sarasota. Kahaulelio was a 20th-round pick in 2007 from Oral Roberts.

Boy does that say a mouthful. With his raw power those 2 should never be that close in HR's this far along into the season. Just goes to show...

It shows more to Heisey than ragging on Francisco. He is second in the SOUTHERN LEAGUE. Heisey is outperforming francisco, that doesnt mean Francisco is playing bad.

I wouldn't say an OBP of less the .300 is exactly playing good. Is he a Wily Mo type player? That's a pretty rough K/BB ratio.

I think it means he's just turned 22 and not every prospect is Jay Bruce. If he repeats AA next year, he's still got an MLB debut at 24.
