    .
Steve Boros had the dubious distinction of getting ejected from a game before the game started. While managing the Padres, Boros had been ejected the night before after a heated argument regarding a home plate call made by umpire Charlie Williams. To Boros's credit, Williams had his back to the plate as Bip Roberts slid across well ahead of a tag, but Williams turned around and called Roberts out, despite not having seen the play at all. The next night, as Boros came out to present the lineup card to the umpire crew (which included Williams at third base), Boros also carried with him a videotape of the botched call from the night before. Williams spotted the tape and once again ejected Boros, this time before Boros could even hand off the lineup card.

Did the botched call cost the Padres a win?

    WP: Jeff Russell (4-8)
    LP: Steve Rogers (3-7)
HR: MON - Andre Dawson (4). CIN - Brad Gulden (4).

Jeff Russell pitched a complete-game four-hitter with 6 K's to get the win for the Reds. The only hits for Les Expos were a two-out single by Tim Raines in the first inning, a leadoff homer by Andre Dawson in the fifth, a one-out single by Tony Scott in the sixth, and a leadoff double by Gary Carter in the seventh. Brad Gulden hit the final home run of his career in the eighth inning off Jeff Reardon.

I was at this game. As a kid, we usually could go to only one game a year, because my dad worked a lot, and money was tight. We had already gone to a game in June against the Braves, so I didn't expect to go to another one. But my dad came home one night and asked me if I would like to go to a game on Sunday against the Expos. Of course, I eagerly said yes! This was the fourth game I had ever attended, and it was the first game I ever went to that the Reds won.

Well this is all very interesting.

The play at the plate was part of a triple play but really didn't affect the outcome of the game because the Padres lost 4-2.

It also resulted in the first ejection of Steve Garveys career.

I think my dad,a brother of mine and probably an uncle attended this game. My dad talked about going to see a Reds/Cubs game around this timeframe. The game he went to he said they gave Rose a baby buggy before the game. His daughter had just been born or was soon to be born. It seems like he said Rose hit a game winning homer too but I'm not sure. I wish he were still around to ask.
