    Wagner Mateo signs with STL

16-year old Wagner Mateo, of the Dominican Republic, signs with St. Louis according to several 'tweets' today on Twitter. Reportedly the signing bonus eclipsed that of J.D. Drew.

What's the book on this kid? I've heard only a few things about him. Is this a significant signing?

He is one of the top 5 prospects on the market. Big signing for them.

Nice player but not worth $3.1 million, IMO. Scouts think he'll have to move off CF and are unsure whether he'll have enough power to be an impact player in LF/RF. If he signed for $3.1 million then the Reds got a steal on Juan Duran and Yorman Rodriguez.

We have a thread going btw.

Prices have started to get slightly nutty. A guy like this, while a very good prospect, wouldn't have gotten $2M last year.
