Your funniest television character of all-time???

I was responding to another television thread when I was reminded of the late seventies series Soap. I got to thinking about the character of Burt played by Richard Mulligan on the show and came to the conclusion that, for me anyway, he was the funniest character I can ever remember on a comedy series. He would make me laugh until I'd have tears running down my face.

I went and googled some youtube clips from the show, and sure enough he had me laughing until tears were flowing.

Anybody else have a favorite character? .

Gotta go with Barney Fife, although I have a soft spot for Nick Yemana, the Jack Soo character on "Barney Miller" (which is my alltime favorite sitcom).

In his sparingly used early days, Creed from the Office was a fascinating, hilarious character.

"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Kramer would be my top pick. "I'm out there, Jerry...and I'm loving it!!"
Lucy from I Love Lucy is an easy pick.
I agree with Creed - and will add Dwight, as well as the original David Brent. Only man that could make me have tears of laughter and squirm uncomfortably in my seat at the same time.
    Homer Simpson.
    Maxwell Smart.
    Ed Norton.
Latka Gravas, Louie De Palma comes very close.
I'll go with Harry, Dick and Sally Solomon.
    Larry David.
"The Gang". If you know who they are, you know what I mean.

Burt was funny as hell but Barney Fife takes the cake.

The episode where he has the old set from the Merv Griffin Show in his apartment is one of my favorites. Not only is the idea at once hysterical, the dialogue is equally as funny. When Jerry comes over for a serious visit and Kramer tries to get him to sit down for an interview- just classic.
