Stubbs walks, AGon hits into a DP, and Heisey pops out.

Stewart in to pitch the 8th. He gives up a couple hits but keeps the Bison off the board: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 0.00 ERA.

Re: Tue 7/21/09 Minor League Updates

    Dorn's line, for the season:

    260/322/447/769

    24 BBs, 57 Ks

In June and July only (110 ABs):

    327/393/555/948

    11BBs, 17 Ks

If he continues to rake at this level, I'd love to see what he could do in September. But he's not on the 40-man roster and I'm guessing he's not in the Reds' plans in the future. Goes to show how one or two bad months could really affect not just a season, but a career.

Neftali Soto doubles and Mesoraco singles in the top of the 6th for Sarasota but the Reds fail to score as Soto was later thrown out at home.

    Soto: 2-4, 2B
    Mesoraco: 1-3

Sarasota trails 3-1 in the 7th.

DarMac homers (#7) and Bankston doubles (4-4!) to start the bottom of the 8th.

Has any Red prospect's value been hurt more than Neftali Soto's? I remember dougdirt arguing before the season started that Soto and Cardinal prospect Brett Wallace and Chicago Cub Josh Vitters.

    Those comparisons now look painful.

Carolina's game has finally started up. The Mudcats lead early 1-0 on a Juan Francisco RBI single that scored Henry. Frazier struck out.

Edit: Huntsville promptly ties it up after a HBP followed by a double off of Lee Tabor.

I would wait to see until he gets out of the FSL

Not very impressive, right? Those are Joey Votto's numbers in a full season at Sarasota. It is very possible that Neftali Soto could bust out once he gets out of the FSL.
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......

Stewart stays in to close out of the 9th: groundout, groundout, popout.

Bats win 5-2 and are now 14 games over .500. Maloney gets the W (7-6), Stewart the Save (2).

No offense Scrap, but I strongly disagree with your observations.

First, I think Dorn will get a shot to be a lefty bat off the bench, if not in September then probably next year. If he doesn't, it wasn't because of his poor start to the season. He's never been a strongly favored prospect and plays poor defense.

Second, Soto's value hasn't been hurt all that much. He is incredibly young for his level and remains one of the best hitting prospects in the system.

I still stand by what I said. Vitters is 5 months younger than Soto, just got to the FSL and is being owned there so far. Vitters had a 6 to 1 K to BB rate this year in the MWL. Soto is at 3.86 to 1. As for Wallace.... well, he is holding his own in AAA but isn't exactly lighting the world on fire either.

Dorn's defense has not been poor this year. It's average. He has had some problems at 1B but he doesn't project there.
