If he's never been that strongy favored prospect, why would they give him a shot after a (seemingly) ordinary season like he's having? I'm guessing he won't get put on the 40-man roster and will hit (well) while repeating at AAA Louisville or some astute team elsewhere will deal for him and find a poor man's Jayson Werth. And, as to his defense, while he's certainly not great with the glove, he's better than Gomes or Dunn. He's at least an average LF. And, while, that's not quite Jocketty's MO for OFers (he prefers fat, athletic, plus defenders), it is something that can be used. Either in Cincinnati or, more likely, somewhere else.

Votto was ordered to take a strike under the O'Brien regime, costing him serious numbers and strife. Soto's young, yeah, so he's got that going for him, but he'll have to produce a ton to be in the same conversation as Vitters, et al.

Mudcats get a run in the 3rd without a hit (error, HBP, groundout, wild pitch). 3-2 Carolina.

    Henry: 1-2
    Francisco: 1-2, RBI
    Frazier: 0-2, 2 K
    Cozart: 0-1, K

Good point about the "take a strike" order that I had forgotten about. Regardless, Soto is very young for his league, which also happens to be a pitcher-friendly league. I wonder if the Reds will move him up next year or have him repeat high-A ball?

Meanwhile Billings is down 5-0 in the 3rd....Shea Snowden has given up 9 hits and walked two in three innings...

A little off-topic, but has anyone heard anything about William Stramp, who hasn't played a game this year due to an abdominal injury? The coaches at Billings were raving about the way the ball jumps off of his bat in preseason workouts.
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......

Because he hits righties very well.

He was a 32nd round pick, so he was never that strongly favored by the organization. He still may get a shot though if he continues to mash righties. He could be next year's Laynce Nix.

Hats off to the much maligned Darnell McDonald who really took a beating to start the year. After mgmt came to their senses and sent him to AAA he has done nothing but hit and play hard. Good to see.

Billings, down 5-0, now up 7-6. Thomas Nurre, the local kid and Miami product, this year's 38th-round draft choice, with a 3-run HR, his first as a pro.

Frazier homers (#11) in the top of the 8th to give the Mudcats a 4-3 lead.
