Giants get Garko from the Indians

    per mlb traderumors:
    Giants Acquire Ryan Garko
By Mike Axisa [July 27 at 8:22pm CST]

8:31pm: Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus says the Indians received LHP prospect Scott Barnes and a player to be named later in the deal. Barnes was the Giants 8th round pick in 2008, and has a 2.85 ERA in 18 starts with High-A San Jose. Baseball America rated him the Giants' 9th best prospect coming into the season.

8:22pm:Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse is reporting that Giants have acquired Ryan Garko from the Indians. Garko, 28, was hitting .285-.362-.464 in 273 plate appearances coming into today, playing mostly first but spending some time in the corner outfield spots.

The Giants have been looking to add a bat to their lineup pretty much all season.

I doubt Garko will have the impact they need

Are the Giants trying to bore their opponents into submission?

Garko? Hey it was just last year than many wanted us to trade Votto for him, some even willing to include Bailey.

This alone won't win the Giants a pennant.

    But...

Did they improve their club by upgrading the 1B position? Check.
Did they do it without adding significant payroll? Check.
Do they still have the flexibility to make another move or two? Check.

By my count, that makes this a solid deal for them. Not one, that on its own merits, will get them in the playoffs. But a good deal nonetheless.

Now they just need to upgrade C, 2B, SS, LF, and RF and they will have a mediocre offense!

From 6/27 to 7/27 the Tribe have made 4 trades and received 1 starting pitcher (prospect), and 4 relievers (2 prospects). Wayne Krivsky, where are you??
