Can the Reds be so bad they get at least the 2nd pick?

I hope they tank enough to be worse than the nationals but that would be pretty much impossible seeing that they would have to lose 13 more games than the nationals do the rest of the year. Just doing simple math the the nationals have to play .500 baseball and the Reds would have to play .200 -.240 or so baseball almost.

The next best option in my opinion is for us to get the 2nd pick. Something we have a legit shot at doing obviously considering we are only 2.5 games out of having the 2nd pick.

I dont know how its looking but Strasburg and the Nationals are probably going to go down to the wire and who honestly knows how that one ends up, but if they dont sign him the 2nd pick will obviously have the 1st shot at him. Add to it that Bryce Harper will be draft eligible next year, the contract negotiations with Strasburg might have the nationals get cold feet if they are given the choice to pick Harper.

Anyone else with me hoping they tank it enough to get the 2nd pick? Id kill to get a chance at either of those kids. If all else fails they will still have shots at POY type picks.

Definitely agree that it is incredibly unlikely, but over the last half month or so since the All-Star Game, we're playing .176 baseball. Assuming Volquez is done for the year and with the talk of shutting Cueto down, our hottest starting pitcher may be Homer Bailey. I think the only legitimate big leaguers left are Votto, Philips, and Rolen (who just got hit in the head with a fastball).

Still playing that bad of baseball over a 60 game period is hard, and it would require that the nationals played much better baseball as well. All things considered we would almost have to lose every game for us to get as bad as the nationals, AND that still might not be bad enough.

Lack of talent and injuries you might get your wish GIDP. IMO now is the time for Heisey,Stubbs and Frazier to get some OJT. { I researched them guys thanks to you GIDP} At worst even if they are not ready, they get to experience the big stage and see what it takes to be a big leaguer. Playing alongside Rolen,Votto & Phillips could only help them. It also creates room for some of the lower minor league players to move up to AA or AAA to fasttrack them so it helps two ways. Losing now with the future helps the fan base stay loyal and helps the team greatly for years to come.

On the flipside they would reach arbitration earlier so it probably won't happen.

I want the 70's back when life and baseball was simple.

Yes. Because they have been in a free-fall, and Baker can't be fired, while having zero ability to motivate a baseball team.

I honestly don't expect them to win 10 more games this year. I also think they need to shut down Cueto because I think there's something wrong with him as well.
