Barker with a gift double. Fielder must have lost it in the twilight.

Frazier is gonna be handled very carefully they seem to want him to be as polished as he is talented. However I have to wonder about these guys sometimes, Frazier spent nearly the whole season in High A and now Double A in back to back years while doing great, why? OTOH they are pushing Mesoraco every year despite the fact he hasn't yet had sustained success. I don't get their methods. Push guys doing subpar and hold back the guy doing well? Most good players make the bigs at 23-24 Frazier is 23 and at his current pace will be in the majors no sooner than 25, maybe longer if he does really well.

Of all the options this is the least likely to happen because its the most logical. Instead we block frazier and sign orlando cabrera for 7 million.

    Bats win 8-5

Kennard's streak of no earned runs extends.

No offense but I think it's very illogical. Frazier is a Jeff Kent like 2B at best (i'm speaking defensively). Not a good 2B prospect IMO. Valaika perhaps but not Frazier. Based on their talent/skill levels I see the team like this going into 2011 as the best and most logical lineup.

    CF - Stubbs/Dickerson
    1B - Alonso
    LF - Votto
    2B - BP
    RF - Bruce
    3B - Frazier
    SS - Cozart
    C - Hanigan

    Bench:
    Dickerson - OF
    Heisey - OF
    Rosales - UT
    Valaika - IF/MIF
    Tatum - C ???

And honestly I really like that team if Dusty isn't managing it. I also could see Balentein sticking but that's more a wishful thinking kind of deal right now.

I know this was from way back in the thread, but I have to comment on this:

    Griffin RBI single plates Griffin
    Now THAT'S impressive...Very Cool Papa Bell-ish...

Too many things going on at once.

    (It was Bolivar's RBI single)

Maybe the Reds are simply shining up Frazier to be used as trade bait this winter. Same thing for Stubbs and/or Heisey.

That's my guess, BRM. And I'm okay if one of them goes. But I really like Frazier (especially as the middle infielder he's played lately in AA) and one of Stubbs or Heisey could supplant and produce as well as Taveras right now.

Hopefully, he gets something for them, at least.

    Sigh.

I just can't figure out any other reason for Frazier not being promoted. The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe the Reds want him and Valaika both playing 2B for now.

Re: Sunday Aug 2 Minor League Updates

Best player on the Reds right now, apart from Scott Rolen, is Joey Votto, who, IIRC, spent one whole season at each stop along the minor league way. Other guys, pushed faster, have struggled. It's not the worst thing for Frazier to be getting lots of AB's at AA. We don't know specifically what they want him to work on right now. It looks like he doesn't figure in the timetable for opening day, 2010, so he's going to spend a lot of time next year at AAA. Whether that starts now or April 2010 seems pretty unimportant, IMO.

    Agreed.

It looks to me like the Reds are very patient with the guys they think will play for them. The guys that they rush up to the higher levels are all expendable.

    Bruce was rushed.

    Cueto was rushed.

Sometimes guys kick the door down. Doesn't mean they won't struggle. And the fact that both have struggled at times MIGHT be the reason for Frazier being slowed down. Then again it could have something to do with his 2 month decline in numbers. Spectacular May followed by a very good June and a somewhat average July. Maybe the Reds need to see how he handles pitchers that have seen him a few times. Or at least how opposing pitching coaches instruct their pitchers to pitch to him. The game is all about adjustments.

Then again, maybe he's being shined up to acquire a 37 year old SS.

Maybe hes being shined up for Carlos Beltran and his career ending bone bruise.
