Aug 3, 1954 - At Forbes Field‚ Reds manager Birdie Tebbetts starts lefty Bud Podbielan‚ but Fred Haney counters with an all-lefty Pirate lineup. Birdie then lifts Podbielan after one batter and brings in righty Joe Nuxhall. The ploy works and the Reds‚ 7-2.

Podbielan walked 13 batters in 10 innings in a game May 18, 1953 against his old Brooklyn teammates, but held on to win 2–1 on a Ted Kluszewski homer off starter Preacher Roe. No one had walked 13 in the National League since 1918. The Dodgers stranded 18, tying the NL mark.

One day in June of 1953, Reds manager Rogers Hornsby mercilessly left him on the mound into the eighth inning while the powerful Dodgers pounded him for 17 hits, including seven doubles, a triple, and two home runs.

They got a few things wrong:

Podbielan was a righty, not a lefty.

Nuxhall, of course, was a lefty, not a righty.

The Pirates lineup had seveal left-handed hitters, but they were not all lefties. Curt Roberts, Frank Thomas, Dick Cole, and Gair Allie were right-handed hitters.
