What Do Aaron Harang and Mark Reynolds Have in Common?

Mark Reynolds is on an amazing pace this year. He is going to have more strikeouts (204 and counting) than batting average points (currently at .202). Aaron Harang is one of ten players to accomplish this feat while striking out at least 39 times.

That's an interesting article about it with some mentions of Adam Dunn, Rob Deer, Dave Kingman, and more.

    Wow, just wow.

I know strikeouts are overblown but that's just crazy. On top of that, he plays one of the worst 3B I have ever seen. If it weren't for Adam LaRoche constantly digging his terrible throws out of the dirt, he'd probably have about 50 errors.

His throws are crap, but he's got a great glove.

I'd rather listen to Kelch read the phone book than suffer through Thom Brennaman's attempt to make every instance on the field the most important event since the discovery of manned space flight. -westofyou

    Harang's glove isn't that great.

Harang and Doug Davis rank as 2 of the worst hitters in MLB history with the amount of AB's they have.

That being said, I noticed a marked improvement in Harang's AB's the past 2 seasons. I think it shows quite clearly how much he's worked on it. I haven't noticed a change in the results much though...but approach, yes.

Does that mean he looks good striking out?

To take this a bit off topic. If you ever want to hear someone get excited about a pitcher hitting, listening to Bob Brenly take about Owings. You could be a rich man if you got paid $1 for every time he said "step in the bucket" Just think if he went to the Cubs after we don't resign him.

The funny thing is that Reynolds has no qualms about his strikeouts. IIRC, he was asked about his high strikeout rate and he said "I'm a home run hitter. My strikeout total doesn't matter since I will hit a lot of home runs."
    Votto for MVP
