    Update on Rolen

    From Fay:

Scott Rolen had a CAT scan yesterday.

"My brain is almost the size of normal human being," he said. "Almost. Real pleased with that."

So his sense of humor is in tact, but he's still feeling the effects of taking a 92 mph Jason Marquis fastball to the helmet Sunday.

"But yesterday I didn't feel right," he said. "I had a bad headache. I never shook it. Today, I feel a little better, just normal headaches. But, at this point, better safe than sorry."

Rolen was going to go through drills to raise his heart rate.

"They want me to do some running, some agility stuff," he said. "Make sure I don't have any dizziness. We'll see where we are from there."

    Did he have a concussion?

"I'm sure it was a concussion. But the severity of it . . . you know what scratch that. I have no bleeding in my brain. That I do know from the MRI. What we actually call it medically is not my gig."

It was hardest hit Rolen even took, "unless you want to count seventh-grade pole vault."

"Yeah, it's worst on a baseball field for sure," he said. "I was almost knocked out. I was real fuzzy for the first five or 10 seconds until I sat up. It still hurts in the spot where I was hit."

Rolen spoke to Marquis, a good friend and former teammate.

"He was pretty shook up," Rolen said. "I said, 'if you want to come in (with a pitch), let me know.'"

The Reds got two games out of him. I had the over/under at ten, I lose.
    Where we gonna go?

Rolen seems like a pretty funny guy, actually.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Yeah, I loved his line after the game on Sunday about still being able to cuss.

Everyone will love Scott Rolen's personality and the way he plays baseball. What we won't like is if Zach Stewart thrives in Toronto.

That statement is really out of line. The guy takes a MLB fastball to the ear and you want to take a shot at him. That stinks. :thumbdown
As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

Eh... I think the comment was made more tongue in cheek than anything. I don't think it was a personal attack on Scott Rolen, just trying to bring a little humor to the board. And quite frankly, that's a necessity with how crappy this team is.

I don't really care how Stewart does in Toronto's organization beyond wishing him the best.

    Re: Update on Rolen

I'm glad Scott seems to be all right. I was in the seats behind the Reds dugout during that game. I could hear that ball hit very loudly off his helmet and it was one of the scariest things I've ever seen at the ballpark. I felt so bad for Scott who seems like a really great guy. I hope he's able to come back and play soon. It may just have been me but I really liked his presence in the infield when he was out there. I don't know what it was but it just seemed like things were really solid having him at third base. I can't really explain it but it was really cool.
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”
