NY Times: John Quincy Adams now on Twitter

I heard this on NPR this morning. The Massachusetts Historical Society have set up a Twitter account for the late president John Quincy Adam. They will be tweeting from Adams' diary following his journey to Russia to become our ambassador there in 1809. I love history, so it will be interesting to get these succinct entries from his diary.

    That sounds cool.

Another site "twittered" the Battle of Gettysburg through tweats from several different historical figures (famous and unknown) during the anniversary of that battle. That was pretty neat to follow (though I only follow it online not via a cell phone.)

I'll have to start following him when I get home. I hope it will be as interesting as it sounds.

I have a feeling Andy Jackson is the one who orchestrated the d.o.s. attack on Twitter.

Well, of course, tweeting from 1809, that wouldn't be a true statement.

An extended blog post from the Historical Society viz the reaction to the Adams Twitter and a very interesting excerpt from his wife's diary from the same time. Their two sons remained behind when they went to Russia and it's a very telling piece of her misgivings and the pain, not having been told any of these until he had excepted the ambassadorship. Very interesting stuff.

Re: NY Times: John Quincy Adams now on Twitter

I thought I'd drag this forward since I still follow this Twitter feed. Today a tweet came saying: "More re: the missed appt.: JQA requested a meeting w/ Romanzoff who suggested “half past five this afternoon at his house in the Country.”

I asked if he was still in Russia or back in the USA. A reply came indicating they were now up to September, 1813 and Adams was being asked to facilitate peace with Great Britain and gave more background on that over a couple of additional tweets.

I continues to be fun to see history unfold with this modern platform.

The Twitter account is @JQAdams_MHS - an account, as mentioned in the original post, established by the Massachusetts Historical Society when a staff member noted his diary entries almost seemed very adaptable to Twitter feeds.

I used to use the Quincy Adams T station to go to work every morning. That's all I've got.

The first Twitter account I ever followed was JQ's dad. His feed consisted of actual, chronological entries from his diary, most of which described the water as he crossed the ocean to France. For some reason it didn't keep my attention.
