    Wavier Wire Moves

ESPN.com's Buster Olney hears that Alex Rios has been claimed on waivers by an unknown team. The Blue Jays now have three choices:

They can let the claiming team have Rios and the $60MM-plus remaining on his contract.
They can pull him back from waivers and keep him.
They can work out a deal with the claiming team.
One executive calls this an "incredible opportunity" for the Blue Jays to shed payroll.

I was going to make a thread on this. I wonder which team would be that ballsy to claim him. 60 million is 60 million no matter the player. Boston once tried to give manny away a few years ago and no one bit.

I remember when Conseco was with the Rays and they put him through waivers. The Yanks claimed him to keep him from going to Boston...but then the Rays called the Yankees bluff and just let them have Jose. Opps!
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I'd personally love to see the Reds step-up and add more high profiled players before the 2010 season---spend some money ownership as you cannot take it with you when you die . Rios in CF would be great, then try and sign a Bay or Holliday in the off-season.

I'm guessing no one claimed Cordero, Harang, or Arroyo.

I would love to seem them claim Rios also, at the very least to show an attempt at making progress. I just feel that to much of this is wishful thinking...but we can always hope.

big contracts like the one rios has are what has held this team back and will continue to do some for the next year or two.

Reds didn't claim Rios, found this on mlbtraderumors.com

7:58pm: John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that "someone high in the front office" confirms that the Reds did not claim Rios.

Well it didn't take long to be brought back to earth. Was hoping the Reds were in a move to start make 2010 better by adding another quality player.

So the solution is to get the very best players at very low contracts? Got it.

You've got to spend for results
