Rowand out as Arroyo tries to field a foul pop up and Rowand runs into him. 3-2 Giants after 6.

    So it's 3-2 Giants after 6.

Would the 6th be considered a good or bad inning for Arroyo? 2 runs on 4 hits.

Arroyo gets the final out on interference call by runner along 1B line.

That was a 28 pitch inning for Arroyo.

Balentein leads off with a walk and Zito is coming out of the game in a double switch.

Howry in to pitch. Winn in to play right and Velez moves to left.

Man! Gomes just missed that one. Caught on the warning track against the wall.

But Rosales executes a hit n run.

Wlad at 2B, ARO at 1st, and Hanigan at the plate with one out.

Hanigan watches two straight fastballs down the pipe. That's the kind of thing that keeps one in a slump.

Hanigan grounds into a 5-4-3 DP. 3-2 Giants mid 7th.

Time to give Votto and Hanigan some time off

The Hanigan magic has been, well, reduced.

Hanigan's only had 190 AB's. If he's going to be a regular, he's going to have two and a half times that many--be two and half times as tired.

Very true. I got blasted for it, but I had a feeling as Hanigan played more that lofty BA and OBP would drop like a brick. Back to the norm, but man when he crashed he crashed.

The Reds will need more than a backup for Hanigan next year. They will need someone to split the position with him, perhaps a lefty hitting catcher. Or Hernandez at a reduced salary.

I'm not so worried that he doesn't hit in the clutch. That will come with experience. I'm more concerned that his bat has worn down as the season has progressed.

Then play him the rest of the season and hope he starts hitting again.
