I really cannot see Boras/Strausburg turning down a 15 million dollar deal.

I mean there have to be people around Strausburg (parents, friends) with enough common sense to know that if he signs for 15 mil he is set for life even if he never pitches in the bigs and if he is everything he is supposed to be he will get the 2016 version of CC Sabathia type money.

Besides if he holds out, what do you suppose the upside is? I can't see him being offered 15 this year and suddenly he is offered 50 next year by tearing up an independent league. On the other hand the downside is pretty huge if he gets hurt.

He's adamantly fighting for the type of contract an international free agent could get (i.e. Daisuke). He's trying to set an example, which is why he might not accept 12.5

could be the reds too...but doubtful they'll spend anything either.

My hunch is they get it done and spread the money over multiple years to get it into the neighborhood of a top FA pitcher signing. The argument will be that he is already ML ready.

There is a lot of pressure on the Nats to get this done considering it would be 2 years in a row they didnt sign their guy. Imagine if they had both Crow and Strasburg. What a bad org.

Nats bidding against themselves. Always a winning strategy.

not really ... Boras has had a lot of guys not sign and go back in again. SS does not have to sign.

If I was SS, I would compromise by signing a 3 year deal. I forget which writer suggested that approach, but it would allow SS to be arbitration eligible for three years.

It would suck for the Nats, but I doubt SS signs for something like 5 years unless he is getting paid a lot.

Will there be a bell ringing at midnight, or will the deadline pass quietly leaving us to hear about the various outcomes tomorrow morning?
