I would have to believe that his Dad is waaaaaaaay more professional than that. He's been in this game a long time.
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

I don't know. I remember Aaron Boone asked for a trade after the Reds fired his dad.

You would think so but blood is thicker than water.

How could Larussa refuse to send him to the minors? It's not his choice. If the GM had the guts to trade him, surely he had the guts to send him to the minors.

That's the reverse of this scenario, from what I am gathering. Just my observation. None of us were there so I guess we will never know. Now if I could just find a way to convince Dave Duncan to become the charity pitching coach for the Reds....

I think LaRussa has a lot of power, and probably more than most managers. LaRussa made it known that he wanted Duncan in the Majors, and in the lineup. He even got into a mini feud with the Mad Hungarian when he defended Duncan. If the GM sends him to the minors against TLR' wishes, then things get even worse. LaRussa would probaby keep requesting that he be brought back up. The only way to fix things was to trade him. Most Cardinals fans believe the orders came from ownership, because things were getting ugly.
