I was wrong about...(minor league edition)

Saw this thread over on the ORG and thought it might be fun to do on the minor league forum. I'll start with a few of my '09 slips...

-I thought Neftali Soto was gonna get to AA and be a big time prospect at seasons end
-I thought Travis Wood was a smoke and mirrors act that had basically run it's course as a legit starting prospect

I wish I had some good ones but the best I can come up with is that I thought Todd Frazier would be the replacement for Edwin at 3rd. Rolen deal and the Francisco promotion really put a kink in that.

Jeremy Horst. I thought he was going to take off. I suppose he still could.

I thought Cisco would struggle mightily.
I thought Alonso would be mashing in Triple A
I thought Cozart would have been promoted by now

I thought Valakia would continue to hit like he always had and been our replacement for Gonzo by the ASB.

Sulburan was going to dominate the MWL.

Duran would show flashes of power.

Buck was the steal of the Dunn trade.

I thought Miguel Rojas' offense would be so bad that people would finally stop talking about him as a prospect.
I thought Logan Parker would have a breakout season in AA.
I thought Alex Buchholz would emerge as one of the organization's best hitting prospects.
I thought Eric Eyman and/or Mike Griffin would become the next Adam Rosales.
I thought Shaun Cumerbland would put up good numbers in AAA.
I thought Tony Brown would put up big power numbers.
I thought both of the Feiner brothers would have retired by now.
I thought Juan Duran would have significantly more walks by now.
I thought Jordan Wideman would be a decent hitter in Dayton.
I thought Theodis Bowe wouldn't be nearly as good as he has been for Billings this year.
I thought Dan Perales might regain some of his vision and turn into a prospect again. I thought Brandon Menchaca might overcome his injury before retiring, too.
I thought Travis Wood would be considered a future LOOGY before the end of the year.
I thought Sean Watson would return to his pre-2008 form.
I thought Josh Ravin would have been released by now.
I thought Shea Snowden would have a very successful year.
I thought Pedro Viola would succeed as a starter.
I thought Tyler Cline would be much more of a project pick.
I thought Phil Valiquette would have another disastrous year.
I thought Scott Gaffney would put up Josh Roenicke-type numbers.
I thought Dallas Buck would turn out to be the best player acquired in the Adam Dunn deal.
I thought Daryl Thompson would manage to do a better job of avoiding the injury bug.
I thought Misael DeJesus would be at least decent.
I thought Justin Walker would have more wins than Luis Bolivar.

same here. I thought he was gonna tear it up this year and be a good looking offensive second basemen. FSL's been real bad to him and Soto. Hopefully both of them can rebound next year.

Well both will be out of the FSL next year one way or another. But with some of the guys at Dayton worthy of a promotion next year at postions blocked by underperforming prospects at A+ do you bump them or bench them?

    I am looking at you:

    Mesorasco / Coddington

    Buchholz / Rojas or Puckett

    Reed / Fellhauser

    Phipps / Wiley

    Soto / Mendez

I was wrong thinking Darnell McDonald and Corkey Miller would never be back in the majors.

Danny Richar - I thought he would wallow around .220 - .240 but he really surprised me by being a solid everyday contributor to the Bats. Then, he was called up and it all went down the tubes.

Catchers in the organization - Early in the season I didn't see a single catcher in the org that seemed remotely likely to reach the majors. Coddington and Denove changed my mind.

Corky - If you haven't noticed, Corky is doing pretty well for a guy with a beer belly as big as mine. Hitting .286 for the Bats.

--I thought Justin Thompson would stay healthy and get about 7 starts with the Major League club.

--I thought Yonder Alonso would be a September call-up and that Joey Votto would get an occasional spot-start in Left Field.

--I thought Sean Henry would OPS .850+ in AA this season.

--I thought Cumberland would play his way back to AAA, but Heisey made that idea ridiculous.

--I thought Ramon Ramirez would pitch well enough to earn about 3 starts in the Majors.

It is difficult to tell the extent to which nagging injuries have played a roll, but on the downside, I was spectacularly wrong about...

I predicted Buchholz would finish at AA and OPS .950 at the two levels.
Horst would emerge as the top LHP in the minors
Valaika would put in a solid year and get a September call.
Dorn would hit over 20 home runs.

    I was totally surprised by:
Rojas...I did not think he would ever hit.
Klinker (did not see him as a starter prospect), Del Rosario (did not see solid ground ball tendency, good middle relief prospect), and Ondrusek (I saw him as filler)
Sappelt and Oliveras (did not see them as serious outfield prospects)

I would for sure attribute much of Valaika's lack of success due to injury.

I better not be wrong thinking I'll get paid for this thread.
