Yonder Alonso to join the Bats in the AAA playoffs!

According to Jim Kelch on the Bats broadcast, and as reported by Goya on the update thread, Yonder Alonso will join the Bats in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the some of the best AAA pitchers.

It sounds unlikely Bruce and Hanigan will play in the post-season for the Bats. But it is possible as they would be eligible. They also might be a drop in performance compared to the current Bats' offense. I hope that's not true but it's entirely possible.

The offense looks good. The pitching, not so much.

I'd put Dorn in LF instead of Bankston, then you would have a lineup in which every player will at some point be with the big club next season.

Gotta wonder if they'd consider moving up Smit, who has lately been outstanding at Carolina and will soon be 24 (and has international experience). I'd say Valiquette, too, but they already brought up a lefty reliever in Krebs, who's older and has pitched better. Then there's Mace Thurman at Sarasota. It's hard to find anybody who has pitched better than he has over the last two years.

I'll submit one very long shot--Mark Serrano. It's a long way from Dayton to Louisville, but the guy has a lot of college experience and he, too, is nearly 24. And he's good.

    (They wouldn't consider Leake or Boxberger, would they . . . ?)
