Nix would be the minimum I'd accept to pair with Gomes, but I wonder if they don't need some one who can play the IF as well. I'd like a power guy like Eric Hinske for that role or possibly Juan Francisco could take the job as platoon LF who can play 3B and 1B to help with the roster pinch. I like Dorn better at this point, but Franisco's ability to play 3B may get him a nod. I'd like to see Francisco play winter ball as a LF. I'd probably let Gomes play against some RH if a guy like Francisco becomes the LH half.
Gomes/Francisco LF
Dickerson/McDonald CF (With Heisey a possibility if he gets off strong in 2010 and McD struggles)
Bruce/Balentien RF
Taveras - DFA, Nix non-tendered, Stubbs dealt for other needs.

Bruce, Stubbs, and Dickerson have options, so we wouldn't necessarily need to drop any of them.
Beimel's an enigma, IMO.
I'm waiting for him to fully turn the corner and realize his potential.

What did/do you expect Beimel to do more than that? He was never considered anything more.
Just noticed Balentien's OPS with us has just sneaked north of .800--.803 to be exact. He's looking like a pretty good pick-up.
If WT isn't on the team next year, I can see an outfield of

X is either a new guy or Gomes. Or Francisco, Heisey, or Frazier. Or eventually Votto.

I can't remember where I posted it, but I mentioned that a few weeks ago that I could see an Ankiel-Gomes platoon in left.

Is Ankiel a good fielder? Is he expensive? If he's cheap and good, I don't have a problem with the idea of acquiring him. If he's neither, then I say conserve all available resources for a solution at SS and/or SP.

As a CF, according to UZR, he measures as something around a slightly below average fielder. But as a LF, he would be slightly above average. He would not likely be worth a lot of money, but if he signed for a decent price, it would be an OK signing.

whats the deal with Ankiel? He is having a terrible year (OPS+ of 76). Is he hurt? why the big falloff from his solid 2007 & 2008?
