    Organizational Leaders (final 2009)

I'll do these piecemeal, here and there.

The qualifying minimums are arbitrary, based, I guess, on what I'd expect a semi-regular to have in a short-season schedule.

    OPS (150 PA)

    1. Kevin Barker (Lou) 927
    2. Chris Heisey (Car, Lou) 900
    3. Darnell McDonald (Lou) 888
    4. Byron Wiley (Day) 856
    5. Drew Sutton (Lou) 852
    6. Juan Francisco (Car, Lou) 847
    7. Yonder Alonso (Sar, Car) 838
    8. Juan Silva (GCL) 833
    9. Todd Frazier (Car, Lou) 832
    10. Efrain Contreras (Bil) 807
    11. Josh Fellhauer (Day) 805
    12. Danny Dorn (Lou) 793
    13. Chris Richburg (Bil) 775
    14. Henry Rodriguez (GCL) 775
    15. Humberto Sosa (Bil, Day) 767
    16. Danny Richar (Lou) 767
    17. Cody Puckett (Day, Sar) 762
    18. Wes Bankston (Lou) 762
    19. Chris Denove (Car, Lou) 758
    20. Carlos Mendez (Day) 752

The surprises there, to me, are Barker (over Heisey), Silva, Contreras, Denove (nice for a catcher) and Mendez (lower than I would have thought).

    ERA, Starting Pitchers (7 starts)

    1. Zach Stewart (Sar, Car, Lou) 1.67
    2. Daniel Tuttle (GCL) 1.67
    3. Travis Wood (Car, Lou) 1.77
    4. Radhames Quezada (DSL) 2.06
    5. Tyler Cline (GCL) 2.09
    6. Mark Serrano (Bil, Day) 2.11
    7. Luis Machuca (DSL, GCL) 2.35
    8. Justin Lehr (Lou) 2.51
    9. Homer Bailey (Lou) 2.71
    10. *Jordan Hotchkiss (Day) 2.73
    11. Jacob Johnson (GCL) 2.83
    12. James Avery (Car) 2.89
    13. Matt Maloney (Lou) 3.00
    14. Matt Fairel (Day, Sar) 3.02

    16. Tom Cochran (Car, Lou) 3.17
    17. Ezequiel Infante (Bil, Day) 3.22
    18. Scott Carroll (Sar, Car) 3.38
    19. Jordan Smith (Car) 3.44
    20. Starlin Gerson (DSL) 3.55
    21. Matt Klinker (Car, Lou) 3.58

    * Hotchkiss only made 5 starts, but I included him because he pitched many more innings than some of the starters who qualified.

The huge surprise on that list, to me, is Miguel Rojas. For a slick-fielding, allegedly weak-hitting shortstop to finish in the top 15 in the organization in total bases . . . hmm.

I'm beginning to think that maybe Drew Sutton is a bit underrated as a hitter and useful guy. I mean, he's keeping good company on that list, and most lists.

Also evident is the conspicuous lack of power at the lower levels of the organization. Obviously, guys like Juan Duran are still developing it, but nevertheless . . .

    3. Juan Francisco (Car, Lou) 115

    23. Shaun Cumberland (Car) 70
    24. Luis Bolivar (Lou) 70
    25. Jason Louwsma (Sar, Car) 69

Anybody surprised that Francisco is only third on the list?

Some guys with relatively low strikeout numbers, in no particular order: Miguel Rojas (Day), Miguel Chacoa (DSL), Danny Richar (Lou), Henry Rodriguez (GCL), Samuel Diaz (DSL), Jose Castro (Car), Carlos Mendez (Day)

The purpose of these posts, incidentally, is to inform the discussion (and the voting) when we begin to make the top-40 (or 50, perhaps) prospect lists.

Agreed. Mystifying that Baker has had almost zero interest in seeing what he can do at the major league level.

By the way, great lists. Will have more to say about them a bit later.

I just thought we should move this up if we're getting ready to start on the top 40.

For all the slamming he took, Darnell McDonald had one helluva year. Kevin Barker as well.

I know people don't consider either of them prospects...but it's hard to dismiss that kind of production. Those two are littered all over the top end of all those lists.

It's actually really easy to dismiss considering their respective ages...

Here’s the pertinent list missing from all of the above. Ages.

I’ve listed them, alphabetically, as of April 1, 2010. If a guy was born before October 1, his age will be designated with a +, indicating the older half of that grouping.
