We all know who's starting in CF once that player returns from the DL.

Well... not according to what Jocketty said today.

    Indeed.

I see Stubbs fighting it out with Bruce for time in RF next year.

    Question for the mods:

How is this thread different than the thread I started about Stubbs earlier? I'm not sure I understand why it got shut down given that Stubbs is basically the #1 thing that RedsZone folks want to talk about right now...

It was decided that the other Drew Stubbs thread had deteriorated to personal battles and redundancy. If the same thing happens to this one then there will be consequences.

    EXTREME CONSEQUENCES.

    Stubbs making some improvements
    Code:
Split PA AB H 2B 3B HR BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BB% K%	BABIP
    Aug 64 61	15 2	0 3 3 20	.246 .281 .426	.707	4.7%	31.3%	.316
    Sept	77 70	19 0	1 5 7 17	.271 .338 .514	.852	9.1%	22.1%	.292
Walk rate nearly doubles, K rate drops about 30% and still posting a BABIP in the normal range. Gotta like that.

there's nothing like bowling a 300 game! 13 now and retired.

Its not crap, but at the same time I think there is something to be said for taking a balanced or blended approach when evaluating things. Stats matter, but so does projection and scouting.

Sometimes it seems it can get a little one sided in appeach to evalution around here, IMO. And I think that leads to threads getting closed, when sides are duking it out in spirited debate about their opinions.

And in the end that's what they are, opinions. So many absolutes get thrown around, but in the end, its just a guess.

    Re: Drew Stubbs

Eight homeruns and seven stolen bases in 131 at-bats. He has a chance to join the 10/10 club!

And, the updated general stats through 131 at-bats:

.260/.312/.473 for an OPS of .785. The 7 sbs are in 11 attempts. Still just the two doubles, as has been often pointed out in this thread, a triple to go with the 8 home runs. He's walking a little more, now up to 10 walks, but still not enough to get that OBP really up. The walk in the 8th last night was as encouraging for me as the first inning homerun. I do have a general question on the doubles...doesn't GABP suppress doubles to some extent? A few more homers, and a few less doubles for all players, all things being equal?

Really an oddly interesting debut, no matter how you slice it.

You'd think there would come a point in time where either the Reds get better at evaluating MLB talent and stopped wasting piles 'o cash on crap.

After some of the contracts Krivsky gave out that Lettuce Bob was forced to eat, I'm not sure he or his wallet is ready to eat some of Jocketty's contracts.

What does that mean? Lettuce Bob's paying Taveras $4M for 2010, and it'll be to play for the Reds, rather than not playing for the Reds.

Probably a discussion for another thread since this is about Stubbs, but maybe Bob and Walt see those empty seats and get the message that eating Taveras bucks and letting him go would make the fan base a little happer. Take the $4 Million from the Marketing budget and not penalize the player budget for it. Fewer ads on TV and Radio and no more Willy. Its worth it IMO.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

So true. The press release where we dump Willy T is worth than any $4M ad they could run. Heck, maybe you put the AP report up on some bilboards and double up on the value!

I always thought it would suppress them some. I just haven't really seen it happen much. Of course the poor defense the Reds have thrown out there in the OF for the past several years may have contributed to the doubles numbers looking somewhat normal. Some average to above average defense could make GABP play the way it looks like it's supposed to play.

If I recall that is correct. GABP is a hitters park becuse HR's increase, but generally nothing else.

I think the odd stats are likely just small sample size. It's not like many of his HR's have been cheap, he's scorched most of them.

I expect his doubles will increase since he has the speed to turn singles for most hitters into some doubles.

His HR/FB rate of 22.2% likely cannot be sustained.

He will need to walk more and hit some more doubles to maintain a .750 OPS. His walk rate has been steadily incresing, so I suggest that is possible.
