Interesting Comparison of two Reds Minor Leaguers

Stumbled upon this today and thought it was pretty interesting.

    Code:
Age Tm PA 2B 3B HR BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BB%	K%	IsoP
    22	Day 414 24 2 9 25 57	.289	.350	.436	.785	6.0%	13.8%	.147
    21	Day 264 16 2 7 19 34	.280	.351	.453	.805	7.2%	12.9%	.173
The first guy was a year older and spent a full season in Dayton, while the other player only spent a half season there or so. The younger guy showed a little more pop and both play the same position.

The 22 year old? Chris Heisey. The 21 year old is Josh Fellhauer. Anyways, just thought it was interesting how similar the two guys were for the most part.

Funny you should bring this up. The other day I was wondering if/when Fellhauer was going to start getting some notice. He is one of those "not outstanding at any one skill" kind of guys that might be a solid all-around player.

Heisey had better stats in 2 of my favorite categories, RBI and SBs

    Heisey 38 rbis, 19 SB-5 CS
    Felhauler 23 rbis, 7 SB- 4 CS

    Albeit in 150 more AB's.

Spookily similar. Good sign for Fellhauer.

It IS a close and interesting comparison, but, to me, there's one large complicating factor. Heisey's season this year pretty much came out of nowhere. He was productive in the past, but nevertheless he had a breakout year in Carolina (and to a lesser extent in Louisville). That's a hard thing to plot on a graph. But still, a good note.

Heisey's OPS at Louisville was .788 in 245 at bats.

Just looking at the numbers, Heisey has always been around an .800 OPS minor league player, some years a bit lower, some a bit higher. Except for AA.

He did spectacularly well at AA in 267 at bats, was clearly too good for that league, OPS around 1.000, sensational.

But it is the only stint in his minor league career when he put up an OPS total meaningfully above the low .800s. And then at AAA he was back in the high .700s.

Good prospect, but let's see what happens with him.

Fellhauer seems to be a really good pick. I was digging what he was doing durring the season. We might have a pretty good find on our hands if he keeps showing the power.

I think he will. He has a short compact swing and good bat speed. He could be a guy that hits 15 HR's a year.

Fellhauer is also considered a very good defender with a strong arm.
