I think most clubs picking in the rule five are looking for someone who can produce right away. Let's face it, anyone picked has to be on the 25 man roster starting the year.

There is no way the Reds will leave a left-handed starter off the roster or trade one. Wood will be protected, and he probably will be in the rotation next year. the only reason he wsn't called up was that he is only 22 I believe, and he had already pitched over 170 innings this year.

Ondrusek is going to Arizona. Can anyone see a trade on the horizon. He is being showcased. Anyone that can close at AAA can relieve in the majors. If he isn't traded, he will be on the 40 man roster. The Reds won't give him away.

Kennard and Del Rosario are question marks as are Valaika and Heisey. Are these guys even rule V eligible?

flash, all the guys you mentioned will be rule five eligible. Also, the Reds have been trying to trade Ondrusek for a long time, but this might be the first year that they're actually interested in keeping him around.

Should we do a poll on what should be the first poll?

Or, if you want to make it really hard and confusing, start at #40 (or 25, 30, whatever) and go backwards to #1.

Seriously, I don't participate in them much, but I do enjoy them and look forward to seeing them again this year.

What in the world makes you think they've been trying to trade Ondrusek?

Kennard is almost certainly a minor league FA not a Rule 5 guy.

I don't think Ondrusek is being showcased. I think he's being prepped for relief role in Cincy in 2009-10

An inside source told me that Krivsky tried to get other teams to have interest in Ondrusek for a potential trade because the Reds thought a team might give up something of value for a guy with such a projectable frame. Fortunately, no one gave any serious offers, and as a result, Ondrusek has found a little success with the Reds organization instead of another one.
