    Re: Twin killing

I'm glad the Twins have come back if for no other reason other than that Mauer will get a much deserved MVP. I was nervous that if they fell out of the race further with Morneau out we'd have to listen the the whole "valuable" on a non-playoff team stuff.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

The Dodgers clinched the NL West tonight with a 5-0 victory over the Rockies.

Very true. I dislike the morphed definition for MVP. To me, Most Value is just that - the most valuable player to his team, regardless of standings. Unfortunately, though, it hasn't worked like that. And Mauer was possibly not going to win if the Twins weren't in the thick of the race.

It sure took them long enough. I'm not sure which team is limping worse into the postseason....the Cards or the Dodgers.

Dodgers. Cardinals are still in great shape in a postseason series with Carp-Wainy-Smoltz on the mound (or Pineiro).

The Dodgers, though, have not had real consistency from their front-end guys and their bats have gone AWOL the second half of the year. The Cardinals are in a short-term funk, but they don't have huge issues like LA does.

It's looking like there will be a one game playoff Tuesday in Minnesota. The Tigers lead the White Sox 4-0 in the bottom of the 6th inning while the Twins are winning 4-0 in the second inning.

My hope is the Tigers pile on.....Verlander is taken out....and he can still pitch the 1st game vs the Yankees. Of course....Edwin jackson who I imagine would pitch the tie breaker would have to win Tuesday. The Twins do not match up well against the Yankees without the other JM...and no real shutdown starter.

The Angels and Red Sox will have to wait an hour after that game ends before the Yankees have to pick the schedule. I guess they're going to have to basically be prepared to play Wednesday just in case, but if anyone can think of a reason why the Yankees would want to wait until Thursday under these circumstances, let me know what it is.

Looks like Detroit is throwing the rookie out there for the biggest game of the season.

Probably the right move for Detroit since Verlander went Sunday.

I'm ready to go for this one. I love me some good baseball, but this year really excites me for the playoffs. I hope the Twins pull this out.

Mauer deserves the MVP, but Cuddyer carried the team down the stretch. He was a monster in Sept. and Oct.

BTW, After falling behind 3-0 early in the game, the Twins have fought back. Orlando Cabrera hit a 2-run homer here in the 7th and now lead 4-3 over the Tigers.

Maggilo Ordonez hit a solo homer on the 2nd pitch of the 8th inning. Tied at 4-4 now with one out in the top half of the 8th and the Tigers still batting.
