    Da' King

I want to see how long it takes to put his Dad in. No Dad, no Richard.

And yeah, Pearson needs to be in their next year. A no doubter.

And former greats like Buddy Baker and the Allison brothers. Yeah, Cale Yarborough too, but he drove a Chevy, so I didn't like him.

But Cale was on the Dukes of Hazzard once, that trumps all.

Surprised Pearson didn't make it, but considering the number of people you could put in someone great had to be left out I guess.

Re: First NASCAR HOF class announced

Did anyone listen to the round table talk they had just prior to last year's Daytona 500 with previous winners? I never laughed so hard listening to Buddy Baker and David Pearson.

Pearson was a smoker and always taped a couple cigs to his uni when driving. Baker told one story where he was trying to pass David, and when he got up next to him and looked over, there was David trying to light up. Several drivers talked of getting up along side David, and there he was puffin' away.

Its been many years ago, when I read Petty's autobiography; but Richard told of an event during a race that involved Fireball Roberts and Fred Lorenzo where one of them (can't recall who) was getting agitated at the other over drafting. So when they came down the final stretch the lead driver, with the other guy drafting his tail - and we all know how close the guy drafting is to your rear end - let his anger get the best of him, slammed on his brakes, caused one heck of a wreck, and took both of them out of the race.

My younger brother Brian is still a huge NASCAR racing fan. I quit following it probably 30 years ago. I did make it to the 1978 World 600 in Charlotte, N.C. though. We sat in turn 1, coming out of pit row, right on the rail with all the Petty fans. It was a blast. Darrell Waltrip won the race. Petty, Pearson, and Baker all made a good showing. I'm glad I got to see them.

What's was interesting was that Waltrip was good friends with my cousin growing up, and they even worked together for years at a Chevy dealership in Owensboro, KY.
