It doesn't hurt my feelings. Hopefully he turns out to be another Scott Boras overhyped client.
What goes in the AFL stays in the AFL.
Seriously the performances in the ASF are even less meaningful than what goes on during a simulated game on field M on the first day of spring training.
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner
AFL means nothing? That's just wrong.
The AFL shows:
1) who teams consider close to the big leagues.
2) who teams are intrigued with.
2) who teams think can help the next year.
Too, about half the guys in the league become pretty solid big league starters. Two or three per team become really good. Perennial All Star/ HOF caliber players show up at a rate of about one or two a year, depending on the season.

Strasberg is news. Other mostly unseen first rounders from this year are news -- Minor, Leake, Scheppers. Aumont and Fields are news the way guys like Andrew Cashner, Mark Rogers and Andrew Miller are -- former first rounders whose stars have dimmed and who need to get back on track. Old news. The fact that Strasburg, Phillippe Aumont, and Josh Fields are even there is news.

And they seem to be dealing with it just fine.Aumont and Fields are news because they will be in the majors next season-something that hitters in the AFL rarely have to deal with.

I don't know. Go back and check last year's AFL stats for guys like Hanson, Norris, Medlen, Parnell, Matusz, Scherzer, Hughes and other "rare" guys who were on the threshold of the majors. Pretty good.Hitters always deal with the venues in Arizona just fine-that's the point of sending them to the AFL. It's essentially meaningless from an evaluation standpoint.

Gonna have to disagree. Good spot for hitters, but if you've got a young arm who goes out there and pitches very well -- like a lot of the guys I mentioned -- it tells you something.AFL stats mean notta.
I know I'd sure as heck rather see my team's prospects doing well than doing poorly, especially the pitchers.
