    Alonso and Heisey

Anyone watch the AFL game last night on MLB Network?

First time I had seen Alonzo or Heisey in action. When I turned it off Alonzo had 3 hits (all line drives) and Heisey had a home run, a double and a strike out. They were very impressive - especially Alonso. He was taking left handed pitchers the other way with authority.

I'm starting to get visions of Votto in left field next year. A core of the order that includes Votto, Phillips, Alonzo, Rolen, Bruce could be very productive.

Yeah, I have high hopes for Alonso as well. I like Heisey too. I wouldn't put him on the OD roster, but he would be my first OF call-up if someone gets hurt, unless, for some reason, his production starts falling, or if someone who I would have on the OD roster isn't there, such as Francisco.

Alonso, Heisey, Francisco, and Cozart are all keepers. Don't rush'em.

Let's see what happens this Spring.

But, first we've got to get us a Shortstop.

Man, I'm really conflicted. I wish we had room for Francisco and Heisey on the major league club as starters. I just don't know where everyone is going to play.

IMO, Francisco > Heisey. However, I wish there was room for them both too.

I don't think Fransisco or Heisey are ready yet. But watching Alonso the other night, he seems to be in a different league. He has a fantastic swing. He was taking left handed pitching the other way and hitting line drives all over the place.

I'll admit his defense was atrocious. But I'd put up with that if he can hit like he's capable of hitting. It's not hard to imagine a .300/.370/.475 line from him.

If we can get that, then leave Janish at SS for the defense and find a right handed stick to back up Rolen for the inevitable injuries.

You think Alonso is ready above Hesisey? Heisey has shown he can hit at AAA, and last time I check was hitting over .300 in the winter league, while Alonzo was hitting below .200. I don't understand your logic.

With Joey Da Man at 1B, I seriously see Alonso packaged in a trade for some more pressing need. Shoot, I could see Francisco becoming a power hitting 1B and Votto moving to LF even. Never thought I'd see a surplus of OFers and other players in this organization.

I don't think Francisco ... [is] ready yet.
I have to disagree. In fourteen games, he batted .429 with 7 RBI. Now I know fourteen games is an extremely small sample size, and that pitchers have not had time to learn about him, but still, he looked pretty sharp.

I like Heisey too, don't get me wrong. Alonso was injured which may explain the numbers but to the naked eye he looks like more of a complete hitter. Compact, balanced swing, goes with the pitch. Reminds me of Joey. Heisey looks a little more like Stubbs. Longer swing, more strike outs. I'm guessing a healthy Yonder will have a good spring, start at AAA and dominate and be up by June. Just my unprofessional gut feel opinion.

Looked up the stats. Alonso is not below .200.

Small sample size in the AFL but counting the game the other night, Alonso was hitting .322 in 16 games. Heisey is at .370. Heisey had 15 strikeouts and Alonso 5. Alonso just looks like he's on the verge of a breakout.
