some of these stats are so wacky, thats why I stick with the ole reliable RBI, there's a reason why the stat has been around for over 100 years

That's definitely part of it. But there is also a reason why the better players seem to end up with the most each year. While it does have its flaws, it shouldn't be as discounted as it has been.

My belief on RBI is that it is a fine stat unless there is other evidence to dispute the situation (i.e. extreme amount of chances).

Your basically right, but nonetheless, there are just as easy stats to look up that can tell you what RBI tries to do in a more accurate way.

But yes, generally speaking, if your an RBI leader, your likely doing something very right.

Sure, there is OPS, RC, RC/27, WS, BABIP, LD%, ISO, VORP, WAR, PrOPS, RCAA, WPA and a host of other "advanced" metrics.

I can't figure out why anyone would want to pay attention to a generally solid measure of success that is easily tracked, visible to the naked eye and has been around for generations.

Hey, I'm agreeing with you here. I don't think it's at all neccessary to jump on a guy and write a page long rant on RBIs every time it's mentioned on here (which is the way it seems sometimes),

It is what it is. It's been around forever, and it's fun to keep track of because it actually tracks what has happened rather than the theoretical. For those reasons, it's always something I keep track of and pay attention to, it's just not something that should really come into the decision making process.
